About Adam

Adam G Fogel PhD.jpg

Adam Tōshikō Fogel, PhD, is an ordained novice Zen priest, Rabbi, licensed psychologist, and the founding guide of Original Witness · Visalia Zen Center. Serving communities in California's Central Valley and online, his work is built on the realization that true respite comes from acknowledging life as it is and accepting yourself just as you are. Adam began formal Zen study in 1996 at the Zen Center of Los Angeles (ZCLA) within the White Plum lineage. He continued to train under Fr. Greg Mayers Roshi and Ruben Habito Roshi in the multi-faith Sanbo Zen tradition. Today, he studies within the Simplicity Zen community under Gambo Kyogan Berry Crawford Roshi, where he served as Shuso (or Head Student) during the winter 2026 practice period. Alongside his Zen training, Adam is an adjunct seminary professor at the Pluralistic Rabbinical Seminary and a Certified Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. Whether at the rabbinical pulpit, the therapy couch, or on the zafu, he is simply Adam.
